Meet the Kell Baseball Coaches



Donnie English, Head Varsity Coach

The Kell Longhorns are very fortunate to have "corralled" Coach English.  He has won over 600 games at the high school level, won 8 Region Championships and has coached the National Junior Olympic Southeast Team to a Silver Medal.  In addition to receiving a Citation from the Georgia State Senate for outstanding service to school and community, honors that Coach English has received include:

  • One of only 7 coaches to have ever won the Circle of Achievement Award from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association
  • Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the Year (7 times)
  • Coach of the Year - Georgia Dugout Club (twice)
  • Marietta Daily Journal Coach of the Year (several times)
  • Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame
  • Georgia Southwestern University Hall of Fame
  • The baseball and softball complex at Osborne High School is named in his honor.
  • Over 50 players he has coached have received athletic scholarships and several have signed professionally. Two have made it to the Major Leagues.

Coach English lettered in baseball for 4 years at Georgia Southwestern University.  He and his wife Barbara have two sons, Matthew and Chandler, and a granddaughter, Ella.

 



 



Keith Brown, Varsity Assistant Coach

Coach Brown is a native of Atlanta, being born downtown at Georgia Baptist Hospital.  Coach Brown moved to the Marietta as young child where he attended the Cobb County School system for twelve years until he graduated in 1989 from Osborne High School.  Coach Brown played high school baseball for Coach Donnie English for four years while earning various team, local, and state accolades before accepting a scholarship to play baseball at Truett-McConnell Junior College, in Cleveland, Georgia.  From Cleveland, Coach Brown accepted another scholarship to Valdosta State University where he played for Coach Tommy Thomas, one of NCAA Division II's winningest coaches.  While attending VSU, Coach Brown received various team awards while his teams won a regular season conference title and made two trips to the NCAA Division II National Regional Tournament.  He earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Secondary Education with a focus on the Social Sciences in 1994.



Coach Brown returned to his alma mater after college to become an assistant coach for Coach English at Osborne High School.  Coach Brown worked as an assistant coach for six seasons before taking the Head Coaching job at South Cobb High School in the 2000 – 01 school year.  After five successful years leading the Eagles, Coach Brown has reunited with Coach English in hopes of bringing a championship to the Longhorns.

2001 – Assigned a permanent staff position with Team Georgia

2001 – Team Georgia – Gold Medal in the Sunbelt Classic in McAlester, OK

2002 – Georgia Dugout Club AAAA Field of the Year

2002 – Team Georgia – Gold Medal in the Sunbelt Classic in McAlester, OK

2003 – USA Baseball Junior National Team Trials – White Team Assist. Coach

2004 – Georgia Dugout Club All-State Tournament Head Coach- West Atlanta

2004 – All-Star Extravaganza Gold Medal  - West Atlanta All-Stars

 





Keith Golden, Varsity Assistant Coach

Keith Golden is now in his sixth year as a Varsity Assistant Coach for the Longhorns.  His main priority on the staff is serving as the Longhorns pitching coach.



Since joining the coaching staff in 2005, his pitchers have helped lead the Longhorns to a state runner-up title in 2006 and four consecutive Region VI runner-up titles in 2006-2009.  Coach Golden has been fortunate to work with eleven pitchers who have signed to play collegiate baseball.  Four of those players went on to be drafted in the 2nd, 3rd, 32nd, and 38th rounds.  



Coach Golden is also currently the manager of the East Cobb Rangers 16 and under team, competing in regional and national tournaments throughout the Southeast.  



Before coming to Kell, he spent three years as the head coach of the St. Francis Middle School Baseball Program in Roswell.  He has had other coaching stints at Young Harris College, Athens Academy, and LaGrange High School Summer Program.



He is a native of LaGrange, GA, where he played baseball for LaGrange High School under Donnie Branch. He played collegiate baseball at Young Harris College, and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Physical Education.  While at Young Harris, he was the recipient of the Zell B. Miller Coaches Award.  



Coach Golden currently teaches P.E. at Addison Elementary School in Marietta.  He lives in Roswell, GA with his wife, Whitney.  They are the very proud parents of an 11 month old son Tate.
